Ramirez R1 #98-4279 |
From the shop of
Jose Ramirez III, in Madrid, Spain: This
classical guitar has a solid cedar top, mahogany back and sides, and
a Spanish cedar neck. Ebony is used in rods that re-inforce the cedar neck.
The fingerboard is also made of ebony. The bridge, peghead overlay and neck
heel button overlay are made of rosewood.
The guitars of Jose Ramirez have been celebrated among classical
guitarists for more than 100 years, since Jose Ramirez I opened his
shop in Madrid in 1882. It was the power and great volume of one
of Jose Ramirez's guitars that empowered Andres Segovia to begin
his career, producing his own concerts at the age of 15. Concert
hall owners were at first reluctant to rent their facilities to him
for a solo guitar concert. They couldn't believe that the ticket
buyers would be able to hear a guitar from the back seats.
This guitar differs in many respects from most of the Asian made
classical guitars that I have played. Most importantly, it is LOUD. This
guitar is louder than the Martin 000-1 in `Rique's
collection, and is at least equal in power to the
M-38. One visible reason for the power
of this guitar is the very thin cedar top. The tone is bright and,
even though this model is the entry level for the Ramirez line, the
dynamics are astounding.
