This early (1968) silver face amp produces 45 watts from 2 6L6GC output
tubes. The circuit is the AB165 version, which differs from the black face
(AA165) circuit only in that the later amp has a network of solid-state
rectifiers in place of the single rectifier tube of the earlier amp. The
other features of this amp include two completely separate channels. Each
channel has two instrument input jacks and controls for volume,
treble, and bass.
The tone of these amps is greatly improved by jumpering the #2 input of
the first channel to the #1 input of the second channel whenever the amp is
being used to amplify a single instrument. This brings another half of
one of the 12AX7 preamp tubes into play to increase the current output
from the preamp. After the jumper (a 6 inch cable with a 1/4" male
phone plug at each end) is installed, it doesn't matter which of the two
remaining inputs is used for connecting the instrument (bass or guitar).
