Fender Super #LO-497152 |
The Super is a sixty watt tube amp with four 10 inch, blue
frame speakers. There are two inputs: the first is a low-impedance input
that mimics the famous four hole Bassman of the 50s and the other input
has a higher impedance like the black face Super Reverb of the 60s.
The footswitch has three buttons to select reverb, channel,
and gain. The channel button selects channel one or channel two,
with separate three-band EQ for each channel. When channel two is
selected, the gain button selects one of two gain settings (sharing
a common EQ section). By combining the choices of impedance, channel and
gain control, this amp comes up with six different sounds before you even
begin to spin the tone controls.

The LO in the serial number stands for Lake Oswego, home of the Sunn
amplifier factory where this amp was built. When CBS sold the Fender
Musical Instruments company in 1985, the new owners bought the
trademarks, the sales network and the existing inventories, but the old
Fender factories were not part of the deal.
During those first few months, the new company's products were limited to
the completed U.S. inventory and products from the
overseas affiliates. Those products from overseas
included instruments and solid-state amps, but not any tube amps. Late in
1985, the new Fender company bought the Sunn company, including their factory
at Tualatin, Oregon. Within six months, Fender moved the factory from
Tualatin to nearby Lake Oswego.
The blue frame speakers used in this amp are reproductions of the
famous Jensen speakers used in Fender's Bassman amps of the late fifies.
