This is a half-size classical guitar (known as a requinto in latin
america, where the instrument is a common part of string band music,
such as the mariachi music of Mexico).
This example was made in Brazil. It has a laminated spruce top with wood
binding and an inlaid rosette made of wood strips. The body is made of a wood
that resembles mahogany and the neck is cedar with what appears to be a
rosewood fretboard.
Gianini is one of the oldest and most successful manufacturers in South
America, and Gianini instruments have played an important role in the
development of the popular music of Brazil and other South American countries.
